Les,Gazza and Max will tell you that Ezra have been around for some time, all playing a part in shaping and developing early Ezra.Drummer Daz Joseph was there from the start ,bassist Steve(Yip) Hughes was an early addition and in 1990 guitarist Andy Edwards and keyboard player Dai Warner joined to start work on the early demos.

The early Ezra line-up

After the departure of Dai Warner, Ezra teemed up with keyboard ace Rob Reed with a view to recording their first album.Rob's keyboard skills and production wizardry were soon fitted in as the band began recording the Shapes album at The Coach House Studios in Bristol.Yip was to leave the band during recording to be replaced by Gareth Jones.

Shapes was released on Malcolm Parkers label Cyclops Records receiving good reviews, including a 4/5 in Kerrang magazine,it was also well praised in the fanzines such as Wondrous Stories(the ClassicRock Society's mag)

After a promotional tour of Shapes Rob Reed left to concentrate on his own band Cyan(with Andy guesting on some of Rob's albums) so Ezra settled as a three piece, using technology to help in the keyboard department.

Ezra released tracks on two compilation albums, the first being, " Somewhere" on the 2nd Cyclops sampler and "Requiem for Cyril" on Hudrock's Unprogged.

Andy Edwards was also to collaborate with Rob Reed on Festival Records' "Fyreworks" album .

With a second album to record for Cyclops work was started on the follow up to Shapes, the songs soon developed a harder edge to those on the first album and recording was soon started. The drum sessions were  recorded at "The Room" in Pontycymmer, with the bulk of the remaining recording being handled at "Little West Studios" in Porthcawl, all finally mixed at Danny Chang's "DCM Studios" in Penarth.

Released on Cyclops Records Big Smiley Sun is Ezra's Second Album.

2006 With the third album to perform live, there was a need for a richer live vocal sound to match the recordings. Backing singers Janine Stobart-Knapp and Lizzie Buckwell were drafted into the band.
